Robert Garcia has been building handcrafted guitars in San Jose, CA for about 10 years. His interest in classical guitar began with a San Jose City College course in 1985, where he learned to play under the instruction of Bahram Behroozi. During his musical education, Robert began collecting fine instruments, including a Ruck, a Brune, and a Ramirez 1A. Inspired by the connection between quality of building and musical sound, he built his first few guitars as a hobbyist, under the guidance of Kenny Hill. Later, he further developed his skills during an apprenticeship for Kenny Hill Guitars, and following that, was employed with Howell and Forsyth before going on his own to expand his home-based shop. Since then, Robert Garcia's guitars have caught the attention of professional players, including Carlé Costa, who recorded his Villa-Lobos CD "Alma de uma terra" using a Robert Garcia guitar.
