A lattice guitar with excellent volume and fullness, the Schramm draws many comparisons to the classical guitar of Greg Smallman. When asked about the differences and similarities between the two David had this to say:

"My lattice guitars are influenced by the Smallman design but are not clones. A clone implies an exact 100% duplication in regards to aesthetics, design, and construction. Just as Torres and Hauser today influence the majority of classical guitar designs, I would not consider them clones. There are differences between my guitars and Smallman’s in regards to construction as shown on my web site http://schrammguitars.com/lattice.html My chassis is similar but different in regards to materials and design. I use a different design for the back and sides. My lattice is also designed and voiced differently to achieve the sound that I like. My soundboards are also different. I use book matched 2-piece single density tops instead of the book matched 6-piece+ multi-section multi-density tops found on Smallman guitars. I use a different method of applying carbon fiber tow that increases its strength and the ratio is also much different. The principles of the design are very similar but with a different approach. I credit Smallman with the design concept and inspiration for my lattice guitars."
