Hermann Hauser II is one of the great luthiers of our instrument and his guitars mature and open up so wonderfully over time that I was very excited when #985 from 1975 arrived in the shop. I opened the case and was not surprised to find a stunning Bavarian spruce top, honeyed with age and ringed with that wonderful "Hauser" green purfling and rosette accents. The dark, straight grained Brazilian and well-machined, smooth turning Landstorfer tuners were also not a surprised. But when I played my first chord on the HII; Pow! I did not expect this kind of power and kick. The hallmark separation and balance of the Hauser instruments was apparent but #985 coupled it with great volume and projection.
The condition is wonderful with the back sides only showing minor wear a slight dulling in the finish. There was a crack in the top, in line with the high-E string, that has been expertly repaired with a splice. The top has also been refinished. These small repairs and updates help make this guitar a fantastic value for such a true masterpiece of sound and lutherie.
