The Passing of Ramón de Algeciras

We are sad to announce the passing of Ramón de Algeciras,

brother of and accompanist to the great Paco de Lucia.

Ramón and Paco de Lucia visited Trilogy Guitars not long after we opened our doors (theirs are the first signatures in our guest book), and both were super kind and gracious. Ramón also took a great liking to our shop dog Kona and from the pictures, I take it the feelings were mutual.

Born in 1938, Ramón de Algeciras represented the traditions of the great Niño Ricardo and became one of the foremost accompanists for flamenco music. His discography shows him playing with everyone from Antonio Mairena, La Niña de los Peines, Pepe Marchena, Pepe Pinto, Fernanda and Bernarda de Utrera, La Perla de Cádiz, Adela La Chaqueta, Fosforito, and of course as the official guitarist for Camarón in the seventies. Ramón has played as part of the company of Juanito Valderrama (1957-1968) with Niño Ricardo, the Ballet de Antonio (1966-1968) and of the Paco de Lucía sextet.

Our deepest sympathies and regards go out to Paco and the whole Ramón de Algeciras family. Thanks for the music. I can’t imagine the heavenly juerga going on right now…..rest in peace.
