Around the Web #2

It's Saturday at the shop and all of the guitars are tuned up, polished, and sounding good so I thought I'd share a few fun things from around the web.

This little gem first caught my attention with it's usage of the adjective, "nightmare" but then the little, tasty pun at the end made me wonder if it was intentional and looking for a cheap laugh or purely accidental and therefore; funny. Thoughts?

"Rudow confides that it was a "nightmare" composing a piece for the Towson University Classical Guitar Ensemble concert in the school's Center for the Arts Recital Hall on May 5 at 8:15 p.m. She had never written music for the guitar before, so she fretted about how to compose for it."

A client stopped by the shop to try out our small, but strong stable of flamenco guitars this morning. The trial of guitars led to the discussion of sound and styles which led to Paco de Lucia, which led to John and I gushing about Paco and Camarón, which ultimately led to lots of YouTube viewing of the wonderful pair.

One such example is here.

And finally, I was very excited to hear that a little classical guitar is infiltrating the American Country Music Awards in form of local (by way of Germany, but now she's a local!) talent Eva Beneke. She'll be performing in an ensemble with "USC-Alumnae Neli Nikolaeva (violin), Tina Guo (cello), Yana Reznik (piano) and a big surprise..."

The award show starts tomorrow (Sunday) at 8pm!

Happy playing,

Ryan
